Providence Law Asia’s very own Shalini Jayaraj, 2017 Practice Trainee, will sit on a panel on ‘Criminal Justice in the 21st Century & Beyond’. This is part of the 3rd Criminal Law Conference organized by the Singapore Law Society, which will be held on 14 & 15 July 2016 at the Supreme Court Auditorium.

Ms. Jayaraj was previously the Former Legal Assistant to Defence Teams before the International Criminal Court. She will contribute her expertise to discuss how Singapore can address and resolve challenges and expectations surrounding the criminal law system. The panel will be moderated by Mr. Amolat Singh, the Co Vice-Chair of the Criminal Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore.

In a boost to the pro bono landscape in Singapore, the Singapore Government has pledged up to $3.5 million a year to fund the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS). Providence Law was urgently requested to act for a popular Singaporean news website against a Written Order issued by the Singapore Police Force to protect journalistic privilege against a Written Order issued by the Singapore Police Force. After conversing with an internet hacker through a series of confidential emails, the news website published an expose for public consumption.
