Veteran lawyer to face Court of Three Judges

Providence Law Asia’s Abraham Vergis and Lim Mingguan, successfully prosecuted the Law Society’s case of gross professional misconduct against a veteran lawyer, Mr Troy Yeo. Mr Yeo had been charged with gross professional misconduct after he failed to properly supervise a Mr Sim who he had hired to set up a conveyancing department in the former’s practice, but in turn had cheated his clients. After a four-day hearing held earlier this year, the tribunal found that the prosecution had set out a compelling case beyond reasonable doubt and that the case is of sufficient gravity to be referred to the Court of Three Judges. The Court of Three Judges is the highest disciplinary body to deal with lawyer misconduct and if found guilty, Mr Yeo could be fined, suspended or struck off.
