Acted for Yahoo! Singapore to obtain reprieve of a Police Written Order to disclose journalistic sources
Providence Law was urgently requested to act for a popular Singaporean news website to protect journalistic privilege against a Written Order issued by the Singapore Police Force. After conversing with an internet hacker through a series of confidential emails, the news website published an expose for public consumption. The Singapore Police Force issued a Written Order compelling Yahoo! Singapore to disclose information to identify the hacker.
Providence Law urgently prepared an application for leave to judicially review the Written Order on the basis that it went against the journalistic integrity that Yahoo! Singapore sought to reserve. The Attorney General’s Chambers agreed, and the Order from the Singapore Police Force was withdrawn.
