Joshua Ng

Joshua is Counsel with the firm and specialises in complex commercial disputes across a wide range of sectors, focusing on fraud and asset recovery, corporate and shareholder disputes, and appellate matters. His experience includes commercial litigation involving multi-jurisdictional disputes before all levels of the Singapore Courts.

Joshua has acted in several complex litigations before the Singapore courts and has handled complex interlocutory applications, successfully opposed summary judgments, and executed strategies to set aside worldwide freezing orders (Mareva injunctions). He has also acted as advising counsel in multi-jurisdictional disputes involving parties, courts, and assets in Japan, the Cayman Islands, Malaysia, Switzerland, and Pakistan. Prior to joining Providence Law Asia, Joshua practiced at a boutique disputes firm in Singapore, where he advised and acted for clients in disputes pertaining to massive trade finance frauds, express trusts and breach of directors’ duties, and interpleader proceedings over multi-billion-dollar cargoes. He has also assisted Senior Counsel in appellate matters before the Court of Appeal.

Joshua graduated from the Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and holds an Advanced Certificate in Law and Technology.

Professional Experience

  • Acted for the joint and several liquidators of Hin Leong Trading (Pte) Ltd, representing their interests in complex interpleader proceedings concerning competing claims over ~S$4.7 billion in oil cargoes. Assisted in developing legal arguments regarding residual asset interests in fraudulent transactions, as part of one of the largest and most complex liquidations in Singapore which involves ongoing claims from major banking institutions, multi-party litigation, and mediation with many of Singapore’s leading lawyers and insolvency professionals assisting.
  • Acted for a cantonale Swiss bank (Banque de Commerce et de Placements) in a US$19 million fraud claim involving trade finance before the High Court. Acted as second chair for a digital forensic expert issue at a 28-day trial before the High Court (General Division) ([2024] SGHC 145), and assisted Senior Counsel in an appeal to the Court of Appeal leading to a seminal decision on the construction of representations in letters of indemnity ([2025] 1 SLR 1146).
  • Acted for a Pakistan-listed company in a Singapore Court of Appeal case challenging the setting aside of an arbitral award for breach of natural justice.
  • Acted for a Singaporean company and its directors in an US$8 million dispute involving claims of express trust and breach of directors’ duties.
  • Acted for the General Partners of a Cayman Islands-based exempted limited partnership in a multi-jurisdictional dispute spanning Japan, Singapore, and the Cayman Islands. Assisted with advising on a derivative action involving limited partners’ non-compliance with a drawdown notice and related SIAC arbitration proceedings.
  • Acted for a Malaysian factoring company in a US$57 million claim involving a notice of default under a subscription agreement with a venture capital fund. Assisted in drafting submissions and legal arguments that successfully opposed summary judgment and a setting aside application.
  • Acted for Japanese clients in defending a US$7 million claim for unjust enrichment and knowing receipt, as well as a related derivative action. Assisted in executing a strategy to set aside a worldwide Mareva injunction, preserving the clients’ ability to manage their assets.
  • Acted for a non-profit public company in criminal copyright infringement proceedings against a subsidiary of Singapore’s largest mobile network operator.
  • Assisted in defending a client in criminal proceedings concerning fraudulent buy-back and short-selling of US$2 million worth of marine fuel oil.
